Our Vision:

Our vision is to build a vibrant church family of people who love Jesus and live out His teaching in their lives.

We seek to do this by being Bible-based, Christ-centred, and Spirit-led. In practical terms this means focussing on reaching out to those in our community who have had no background or interest in the Christian faith.

Our Core Values:

Based on the pattern set by New Testament churches in the Bible, our six core values are:

  1. Helping each other grow in our relationship with God (Colossians 3:16)

  2. Seeking to meet one another’s needs (Romans 12:13)

  3. Developing each other’s gifts, ministries and service (1 Peter 4:10)

  4. Proclaiming the good news about Jesus to those around us (Matthew 28:19)

  5. Blessing our community in practical ways (Isaiah 58:6-7)

  6. Supporting the wider church throughout the world (Philippians 4:14-16)

We are affiliated with the Evangelical Alliance, whose full Statement of Faith can be read here

Our Story:

Wiveliscombe Community Church has its roots back in 2014 when a small group of local Christians felt the need to reach out to the vulnerable and needy in our community, including those that had no particular interest in church and saw no relevance in the Christian message to their lives

We began meeting at a home in the town, and over the next five years saw some people from outside the church community in Wiveliscombe come to faith in Jesus.

We also partnered with Christians Against Poverty (CAP), and in 2018 established a CAP Debt Centre.

In 2021 we began meeting at the Wiveliscombe Community Centre.

The rest of the story?.....It’s still being written!

Some of our Team:

Being a young church, we have not formally adopted the titles of “elders and deacons” for our leadership structure, but we do believe in the Biblical approach and therefore have a core team who fulfil these Biblical leadership roles and whose areas of ministry and service are determined by their own gifts and experience.

The Evangelical Alliance Statement of Faith

We believe in:

  1. The one true God who lives eternally in three persons – the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

  2. The love, grace and sovereignty of God in creating, sustaining, ruling, redeeming and judging the world.

  3. The divine inspiration and supreme authority of the Old and New Testament Scriptures, which are the written Word of God – fully trustworthy for faith and conduct.

  4. The dignity of all people, made male and female in God’s image to love, be holy and care for creation, yet corrupted by sin, which incurs divine wrath and judgement.

  5. The incarnation of God’s eternal Son, the Lord Jesus Christ – born of the virgin Mary; truly divine and truly human, yet without sin.

  6. The atoning sacrifice of Christ on the cross: dying in our place, paying the price of sin and defeating evil, so reconciling us with God.

  7. The bodily resurrection of Christ, the first fruits of our resurrection; his ascension to the Father, and his reign and mediation as the only Saviour of the world.

  8. The justification of sinners solely by the grace of God through faith in Christ.

  9. The ministry of God the Holy Spirit, who leads us to repentance, unites us with Christ through new birth, empowers our discipleship and enables our witness.

  10. The church, the body of Christ both local and universal, the priesthood of all believers — given life by the Spirit and endowed with the Spirit’s gifts to worship God and proclaim the gospel, promoting justice and love.

  11. The personal and visible return of Jesus Christ to fulfil the purposes of God, who will raise all people to judgement, bring eternal life to the redeemed and eternal condemnation to the lost, and establish a new heaven and new earth.
